AI.FUND: Auf KI spezialisierter, unternehmerisch ausgerichteter Venture-Capital-Fonds aus Deutschland geht an den Start

Hamburg – 15.02.2024 – Als rein auf KI spezialisierter deutscher Frühphasen-Fonds hat der neue AI.FUND sein First Closing zum Jahresende 2023 erfolgreich abgeschlossen und den Betrieb aufgenommen. Der Venture Capital-Fonds aus Hamburg investiert sektor-agnostisch in junge Startups aus Deutschland, Europa und Israel, die Geschäftsmodelle auf Basis angewandter KI entwickeln. Das Zielvolumen des formal bereits 2021 gegründeten und für eine Laufzeit von zehn Jahren angelegten Fonds beträgt 35 bis 50 Mio. EUR. Der Fonds möchte einen Beitrag leisten, um die KI-Finanzierungslücke in Europa zu verringern und die Anwendung von KI zu fördern.
Führende Köpfe der KI-Investment-Szene als InitiatorInnen
Initiiert und geführt wird der Fonds von einem Team aus namhaften und im Bereich KI erfahrenen InvestorInnen, UnternehmerInnen und ExpertInnen, darunter:
- die Technologie-UnternehmerInnen Ragnar Kruse und Petra Vorsteher, die erst das Softwareunternehmen und einstigen Börsenstar Intershop, dann ihre eigene Gründung Smaato erfolgreich aufbauten und bereits 2002 in das erste KI-Startup investierten,
- der Corporate-Investor Dr. John Lange, der erst Intershop sehr erfolgreich an die Börse brachte, dann das als wegweisend bekannte Startup-Portfolio von Axel Springer mit aufbaute und zu den führenden ExpertInnen im Bereich Corporate-Venture-Capital zählt,
- der Technologie-Unternehmer und Investor Dr. Hauke Hansen, der nach Management-Positionen bei Amazon, McKinsey und im Private Equity-Bereich seit Jahren mit seiner Investmentgesellschaft Lakeside Invest in Startups investiert,
- der Experte für die Kommerzialisierung von KI, Ingo Hoffmann, der nach Stationen bei Applied AI, Cyber Valley, IBM Watson und SAP heute die KI-Allianz Baden-Württemberg aufbaut und Deutschland bei GPAI (Global Partnership of AI) vertritt,
- sowie der KI-Investor Fabian Westerheide, der unter anderem den Berliner VC-Fonds Point Nine Capital mit aufbaute und seit 2016 mit der “Rise-of-AI” die führende KI-Konferenz in Europa veranstaltet.
AI.FUND bietet InvestorInnen und Unternehmen Zugang zu KI-Innovation “made in Europe”
Neben der Aussicht auf eine attraktive Rendite bietet der AI.FUND InvestorInnen einen qualifizierten Zugang zu KI-Innovationen “made in Europe”. Die Zahl der KI-Startups in Europa wird auf über 6.000 geschätzt. Das Unternehmen konnte zum Jahresende erfolgreich eine €4 Mio.-Finanzierungsrunde abschließen.

Hamburg – 15.02.2024 – As a German early-stage fund specializing exclusively in AI, the new AI.FUND successfully completed its first closing at the end of 2023 and commenced operations. The venture capital fund from Hamburg invests in young startups from Germany, Europe, and Israel, developing business models based on applied AI. The target volume of the fund, formally established in 2021 and designed for a ten-year term, is 35 to 50 million EUR. The fund aims to help reduce the AI funding gap in Europe and promote the application of AI.
Leading figures in the AI investment scene as initiators
The fund is initiated and led by a team of renowned investors, entrepreneurs, and experts experienced in AI:
- Technology entrepreneurs Ragnar Kruse and Petra Vorsteher, who first built the software company and former stock market star Intershop, then their own startup Smaato successfully, and invested in the first AI startup in 2002,
- Corporate investor Dr. John Lange, who successfully took Intershop public and then built the pioneering startup portfolio of Axel Springer, counting among the leading experts in corporate venture capital,
- Technology entrepreneur and investor Dr. Hauke Hansen, who has been investing in startups through his investment company Lakeside Invest for years after management positions at Amazon, McKinsey, and in the private equity sector,
- The expert in commercializing AI, Ingo Hoffmann, who after positions at Applied AI, Cyber Valley, IBM Watson, and SAP is currently building the AI Alliance Baden-Württemberg and represents Germany at GPAI, the Global Partnership of AI,
- AI investor Fabian Westerheide, who co-founded the Berlin VC fund Point Nine Capital and launched the first German AI fund with Asgard Capital in 2014, and since 2016 has been organizing “Rise-of-AI”, one of the leading AI conferences in Europe.

Successful financing round for the first startup investment

The company successfully closed a €4 million financing round at the end of the year.
